Life and Soul Group

At MHA, health and wellbeing opportunities are not just an exhaustive list of what we think our people may benefit from; they are what staff tell us are meaningful to them.

Our lively Life and Soul (health and wellbeing) Group comprise staff reps from across our Group who regularly come together to forward plan our activities, keeping us active and engaged all year round.

Whether it’s our Monmouthshire Milers  Couch to 5K running club, weekly walking club, arranging wellbeing events, gardening club… the list is endless. Our Life and Soul Group don’t sit still, they’re always looking for health and wellbeing opportunities, so our workplace thrives and staff have a smile on their face!

Vicki Smith, MHA Comms Team explains how she cultivated new skills whilst getting TogetherWORKS’ garden, ‘summer ready’, during a recent volunteer day…

Our volunteering day kicked off with a bacon butty and mug of coffee to psyche us up for some hard but very enjoyable graft preparing the garden at Together Works Community Hub for their up-and-coming festival.

As an office-based team it was great to put on our scruffs, brave the weather and get down and dirty, planting bulbs and cementing in garden furniture.

We all certainly learned a different skill that day and knowing it was for the benefit of our community gave us a real buzz.

We love to give something back!

We care about our people and communities, and want to sow the seeds to happy careers.

We understand our people need the tools to flourish, that’s why we run a successful staff volunteering programme. All MHA staff are awarded 3 paid volunteering days each year. These can be spent working in the community or outside of MHA supporting projects, other charities or worthy causes or housing sector organisations. We established the programme to help nurture growth, so staff can learn new skills, meet new people, and champion their unique skill sets as well as contributing to the Monmouthshire communities we serve.

The types of activities we typically get involved with might include…

  • Decorating of areas used by our communities
  • Environmental projects within Monmouthshire
  • Tenant engagement events
  • Mentoring in Monmouthshire Schools
  • Sponsored activities for charity
  • School employment fayres

If you love the sound of this, construct a brighter future at MHA.

Your mental and physical wellbeing is very important to us

We want our staff to blossom in their roles, but understand a work-life balance plays a key role in this success. That’s why we offer generous annual leave, the ability to buy and sell your leave, and flexible working to ensure  you can easily manage all aspects of life. We also understand time to rest and unwind is important to us all, so staff can look forward to a Christmas shutdown every year.

To ensure your physical health is supported, we offer staff a Health Cash Plan which gives you money back to help cover a range of medical costs including dentists’ bills, new glasses and much more. You’ll have free access to an independent and completely confidential advice service and offer an occupational health and lifestyle screening service.
