On Sunday 10th November at approx. 8.35pm a fire broke out at The Magic Cottage Superstore, which spread to nearby premises, necessitating the precautionary evacuation of residents living at nearby MHA properties located at Radstock Court and Baker Street.
Some evacuated residents remained at Abergavenny Leisure Centre overnight and were supported by staff from MHA, MCC and the emergency services, ensuring they were safe, warm, and kept up to date with the current position.
Monday 11th November
At 3.45am – South Wales Fire & Rescue (SWFR) confirmed it was safe for Radstock Court residents to return home.
At 11.30am – SWFR advised MHA that the residents of Baker Street could also return home.
MHA’s building services team have visited both locations to identify any work needed to facilitate residents’ return to their properties.
We would like to thank the emergency services for their prompt actions and to Monmouthshire County Council Emergency Planning Team who provided a safe space for residents at Abergavenny Leisure Centre.
Thank you also to our Neighbourhood team who have been on hand throughout the night and day to support the wellbeing of MHA residents in what has clearly been a distressing incident for them and the wider community.
