Our Environmental Commitments

MHA has a responsibility to all its stakeholders to deliver environmental good practice, energy and waste reduction and assist the Welsh Government to meet its target of net zero carbon emissions in Wales by 2050.

We have adopted a holistic business-wide approach that aims to create a balance between our people, planet, places and prosperity.

Our daily activities have an impact on both the local and wider environment and at MHA we are working hard to ensure it has become part of the everyday process of running MHA and an integral part of workplace behaviours and attitudes.

To help us prioritise and measure our efforts in achieving our long-term sustainability goals we have adopted the sector-wide Sustainability Reporting Standard (SRS) for social housing. This will help MHA to grow whilst maintaining a sustainable business, enabling us to be more transparent and open with our performance.

Our Homes

We recognise climate change is everybody’s responsibility, and as a developer of new houses and landlord with more than  properties, we have a significant part to play.

We are already making positive steps on our net zero journey and are adapting the way we do things to reduce our impact on the environment.

Visit our Sustainability and Retrofit page to read our approach to ensuring both our new and existing homes reach our net zero target.

Our Communities

We work with our many community partners, saving pounds and the planet one step at a time!

  • 29.7 tonnes of food waste saved from landfill through community fridge projects based in our community hubs.
  • 2 community groups supported to set up new baby banks with 41 families accessing baby items.
  • 4 litter picks completed involving 46 volunteers.
  • 17 bikes donated and upcycled.
  • 523 sustainable period products distributed through local community hubs.
  • 5 refurbished digital devices purchased to utilise in the community

Our Head Quarters

We are lucky to work in a highly sustainable eco-friendly office, embracing renewable energy sources and significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Staff are encouraged to suggest ideas on how we can improve our processes and behaviours to enhance our working environment and health and wellbeing, and collaboratively work towards a greener future together.

Here are some of the environmental/sustainable initiatives in place at our head office:

  • Rainwater Harvesting system which feeds all toilets within the building.
  • Photo voltaic panels on our roof at HQ.
  • Fully electric fleet vehicles.
  • Staff can grab a cup of eco-friendly coffee! (we use Fairtrade refreshments).
  • Recycled office paper.
  • Pond and garden within the grounds providing a biodiverse environment and lovely lunchtime retreat.
  • Less than 0.5% of our business waste currently ends up in landfills, and we’re continuously striving to decrease this figure.
  • The digitalisation of former paper processes such as payslips and expenses.
  • We are also fully compliant with the new Welsh Government regulations regarding waste/recycling.
