Upgrading our alarm systems

It’s been a busy summer for our housing teams, as we get ready to upgrade the careline alarms and door entry systems at our Community Living schemes (also known as our Older Persons Accommodation).

Last year we undertook an extensive engagement exercise to help determine the extent that our residents valued having a careline alarm service.

With the impending digital switchover which will see telephone companies switch off the older copper landline system our current alarms rely on to operate, coupled with ageing equipment difficult to maintain and repair, now is the right time to update our systems.

Ensuring value for money and suitability

Before we invested in new equipment, as we charge for this service, we wanted to know that this was still important to our residents and to determine what our residents considered to be affordable.

We conducted workshops and undertook surveys with residents and families to help decide the right equipment for us. It was important to us that we made such an important decision in the confidence we fully understood our residents’ views.

Feedback told us residents valued the service, and ease of use and economical to run were key factors. This helped shape the systems that we purchased.

MHA will be rolling out the new systems during Summer 2024 and will be in touch with each resident personally to determine their personal support needs and to ensure they are ready for the transition.
