We really got into the festive spirit this December and collected 55 Advent calendars and 35 chocolate selection boxes for local foodbanks. The Christmas goodies – all donated by MHA staff - were shared out and donated to four foodbanks across the county: Abergavenny, Chepstow and Monmouth, run by The Trussell Trust; and Caldicot, run by the Raven House Trust, last week.
Organiser Sarah Jones, MHA Income Officer was thrilled at the inundation, “It’s been great to be able to make sure that children across the county get to celebrate with some treats for Christmas. Mind you, I still haven’t gotten one for myself!”
Never mind Sarah, we’re sure that Santa will remember you on Christmas morning!
If you’re finding it hard to make ends meet you could be eligible for food bank vouchers: you don’t need to be receiving benefits. You’ll need to be referred by your Housing Officer if you’re a social housing tenant, or by someone from another community organisation, such as a Social Worker, or Probation Officer. You can also go along to your local foodbank and check whether you're eligible. Many foodbanks have trained people who can advise you on what you can receive and what to do. You can also find out openng hours and much more online:
https://www.trusselltrust.org/ where there’s a handy benefits calculator so you can check if you’re eligible for benefits as well as finding your nearest foodbank and opening hours
