Monmouthshire Housing Association “Pitch for your Project” awards £12,000 to community groups across Monmouthshire!
On the 14th September 2017 at the Glen Yr Afon in Usk, eight passionate groups entered the Dragons Den to pitch their project to a group of judges, all in the effort to win a share of the £12,000 prize money from Monmouthshire Housing Association’s Pitch for your Project grant scheme.
The dragons for the day were Kath Deakin, Head of Sustainable Communities at MHA, Kerry Thorn, former applicant and previous winner of the Pitch for your Project grant scheme, Owen Wilce, Programme Lead at Monmouthshire County Council and lastly Sue Jones, a previous winner of Pitch for your Project and member of Abergavenny Crafty Women.
Monmouthshire Homestart was awarded £5,000, who will invest the money in an employee so they can support local families. £1,500 was granted to Raglan Coffee and Computers to ensure the groups continuation and to provide a better service to the members of the group by gaining qualified volunteers. Caldicot Music Theatre Society was awarded £1,260 that will be invested in further equipment to enhance the learning of the Musical Arts to the students that attend. £1,040 was gained by Blue Phoenix Marching Band to ensure the young group of students can practice in a safe, secure environment. Lifeboat, who are a group that support people with mental health problems, received £1,000. The money will be used to provide further resources for the people to access. There was a further £2,200 which was granted to Bridge to Cross Charitable Trust, Savoy Youth Theatre and Jigsaw Community Group, which will use it for their own community projects.
Their projects and pitches were well completed and highlights the great work local people have been accomplishing within the local communities across Monmouthshire. Monmouthshire Housing Association understands the value these groups bring to the community and will continue to support and work with groups who have such drive and ambition to improve the community and make a difference in people’s lives.
Applications for the winter round of Pitch for your Project will be open from the 10th November 2017. Applications will be closing on the 19th January 2018. The event will be taking place on the 13th February 2018.
