Monmouthshire Housing Association’s (MHA) ‘Homes for the Future’ show home at Elm Road, Caldicot will be open to the public at the end of May.
Funded through the Welsh Government’s Innovative Housing Programme, and built by Monmouthshire Housing Association, the development will be showcased through a series of show home open days throughout late May and June.
The four, one-bed mews style houses will be available to rent through MHA have been developed in partnership with the Welsh School of Architecture – Cardiff University (WSoA) on the site of 32 no longer fit for purpose garages.
It is the vision of both MHA and WsoA that these style of homes would be able to be rolled out across the county to meet the needs of downsizers and those looking to move into their first homes, which is not adequately catered for.
Due to the innovative design, the four homes have been built to be sustainable and energy efficient, with a SAP rating of 100. Furthermore materials have been sourced and manufactured locally to reduce the environmental impact of construction.
Further to the development in Caldicot, another garage site in Abergavenny has been transformed into four 1 bed courtyard bungalows which will be available from late June.
