Winter Round 2016 Winners
On the 8th December 2016 at the Glen Yr Afon in Usk, six respectable groups entered the Dragons Den to ‘pitch’ their ‘project’ to a group of judges all in the effort to win the prize money for Monmouthshire Housing Associations ‘Pitch for your Project’ grant scheme. £2000 was up for grabs for the groups and within the Judges Den was where the money would be won or lost.
Six groups took on the dragons in order to gain one of two pots of £500 or one pot of £1000!! The dragons for the day were Michele Morgan, Assistant Director of Housing and Communities here at MHA, Pat Lawrence, former applicant and previous winner of the Pitch for your Project grant scheme, Ken Bucknall, a tenant at MHA and a member of MHA’s Board and lastly Judith Langmead, a MHA tenant and former Chair of the Board at MHA.
After all of the pitches were superbly executed and completed the judges had the massive task of allocating the money to the three strongest projects. After a long time deliberating and debating, the judges finally came to a decision.
The £1000 cheque was won by Monmouthshire Children Services who will use the money to invest in equipment for the youth to help deliver their service. The one pot of £500 was awarded to Overmonnow PTFA where the money will help fund their Outdoor Classroom project for the students of Overmonnow Primary School. The last £500 cheque was awarded to Abergavenny Crafty Women who wanted to use the money to purchase digital equipment for the Crafty Women group.
A special mention is to be made to The Bryn Village Hall, Friends of Castle Meadow and Monmouth Self Help and Friendship Group who all came runners up. Their projects and pitches were really well done and their efforts and presence help make the day a success. Monmouthshire Housing Association understands the value these groups bring to the community and will continue to support and work with groups who have such drive and ambition to improve the community.
