Due to age or illness some of our tenants need adaptations to enable them to live comfortably and safely in their homes. MHA provide two types of adaptations for its tenants:-
Disabled Facilities Adaptations
Most of these works relate to mobility issues and include installing stair lifts, hand rails, replacing baths with level access showers, ramps and even in extreme cases some structural alterations.
If you feel you could benefit from such adaptations you should contact Monmouthshire County Council’s Social Services Department who will refer you to an Occupational Therapist (OT). The OT will visit your home and assess what works need to be carried out. Their recommendations will be sent tom the County Council’s Housing Grants Team who will assess the works required and arrange for them to be carried out.
Safety at Home Adaptations
These are usually smaller adaptations and are provided to older or disabled MHA tenants who are in hospital, or have recently left hospital or where their circumstances require urgent intervention. It can also be available where urgent intervention can prevent an older or disabled MHA tenant being admitted to hospital or residential care.
If you feel you are in need of such adaptations you can either contact Monmouthshire County Council’s Social Services Department to ask for an Occupational Therapist to carry out a full assessment or contact Monmouthshire Care & Repair on 01495 745936.
The type of Safety at Home works undertaken include:--
- Small ramps and home access
- External and internal rails.
- Partial electrical works.
- Upgrading heating in essential homes.
- Fitting of key safes.
The cost of these works is usually limited to £350.
